Around 15 months ago I had micro/mini grafting done the hair grafts grew but I have little bumps from the grafts.

Dr. Stone, around 15 months ago I had micro/mini grafting done. The grafts grew but I have little bumps from the grafts, I noticed them when I cut my hair really close. I was wondering if over time they might go away and also what causes them? Also, I hear that Follicular Unit hair transplants is better because you have less of a chance of developing these bumps. Is this true to your knowledge? Thanks.

Bumps that appear in the short term are usually due to skin growing over the grafts. This is temporary & resolves when the hairgrafts become longer. Bumps appearing later after surgery at the recipient sites can be due to scarring from local tissue trauma or the transfer of too much scalp skin along with the grafted hair. Follicular unit transfer has less risk of this happening because the recipient site holes are smaller & less skin is transferred with each graft. This is also known as a cobblestone appearance & it may be amenable to CO2 or Erbium laser treatments.

How long should the bumps around the grafts last after a hair transplant?

How long should the bumps around the grafts last after a hair transplant? It has been just over 2 weeks and I'm worried that they won't go away.

They may not if the grafts contain an excessive amount of skin.

Using Couvre and Toppik after a hair tranplant

Hello Dr. Bernstein, I would greatly appreciate it if you could answer a question for me. I am a male suffering from hair loss. I have been covering it up very well for the last year using Toppik and Couvre hair products. I had hair transplants done 2 years ago and even right after my surgery I carried on using them to cover up the bald areas. However, I just returned from a consultation with a new doctor to get some more hair transplants done and he said NOT to use them anymore because they damage the follicle and prevent growth. He said that I cannot use them after my surgery! These were the products that made it possible for me to have the first surgery done in the first place! Can you please tell me if it is true that they are harmful to the results after the surgery? Any advice you can provide is greatly appreciated. Thanking you in advance, ash

Toppik and Couvre may be used after surgery. However, I would suggest waiting a week before using them. You should further discuss your concerns about this with your hair transplant surgeon. Sincerely, Drs. Bernstein and Badamo

Red and tender donor scar after a hair transplant

Dr: I had the procedure done about a month ago, yet the scar in my doner area is still red and tender. Is this normal after a month of the procedure?

Usually not, but you should speak to the surgeon who operated on you as he knows the details of your surgery.
